Can therapy help me?
You can expect Dr. Hauke to use evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective in helping clients facing difficulties much like your own. Based on your unique needs and goals, Dr. Hauke will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan.
Dr. Hauke will provide you with the tools you need to start feeling better. Therapy is different for everyone however, so outcomes and progress may vary. Many clients see positive changes within the first six sessions; however, your progress will depend on the type of work Dr. Hauke recommends for you as well as your particular treatment goals and symptoms.
Dr. Hauke charges $175 per initial intake appointment and $150 per subsequent psychotherapy session. Fees are subject to change. Additional fees may apply.
Does Dr. Hauke accept insurance?
Dr. Hauke is not a participating provider with any insurance panels. If you wish to seek possible reimbursement for out-of-network services, she can provide you with a “Superbill.” This is a receipt that contains information (including your diagnosis, dates of services, amounts paid, etc.) insurance companies typically need to process your request. Dr. Hauke does not work directly with any managed care or insurance company and does not submit claims for her clients. She can, however, coach you through the process if that’s what you decide to do. Not all insurance companies and plans reimburse for out-of-network services, however, so new clients are strongly encouraged to contact their insurance carrier to inquire about benefits and policies prior to their first appointment. If you have any questions about this process, Dr. Hauke is happy to clarify. Even if you choose not to file with your insurance, your work with her may be tax deductible as a medical expense.
Although each insurance company is different, most clients find the following steps helpful:
Call your health insurance company prior to your first appointment.
a) Inform the person with whom you speak that you intend to see an “out-of-network” psychologist for therapy services.
b) Ask how much you may be reimbursed for “CPT” codes 90791 (first appointment) and 90837 (subsequent sessions).
c) Ask about your annual deductible and if there is a maximum number of sessions for which they may reimburse per year.
Request an E.O.B (Explanation of Benefits) for additional helpful information about “out-of-network” services.
Insurance companies often dictate the number of sessions that clients can receive, request confidential patient records, and require patients to receive a diagnosis. In other words, Dr. Hauke can't guarantee they'll put your interests first.
The individuals making these decisions on behalf of insurance companies are usually administrators—not licensed health care providers.
While many of Dr. Hauke’s clients do have a specific psychiatric diagnosis, psychotherapy can benefit those who do not meet the medical model’s need for a diagnosis (e.g. going through a divorce, wanting to discuss body image, etc.).
Some professions—including government and military positions—may make employment decisions based on past or present diagnoses. Receiving an unwarranted mental health diagnosis may cause concerns for employment that Dr. Hauke finds to be stigmatizing and unnecessary.
Insurance companies pay psychologists far less than market value. This requires psychologists to see more patients in less time—often leading to therapist burnout and subsequent client dissatisfaction. Think about your last medical appointment—were you satisfied with how much time your doctor spent with you?
Treatment is confidential and solely between you and Dr. Hauke. She allots extra time (e.g., reviewing research, coordinating care with other professionals, etc.) outside of session and provides individualized care to each client.
